WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THOSE WHO TWIST THE WORD OF GOD?
(This is the question I recently asked the “freewill chick” as she accused me of “twisting the word of God” all because I believe God is the savior of all. Meanwhile, to justify her position that GOD IS NOT THE SAVIOR OF ALL… not really… but He is “POTENTIALLY” the savior of all… IF all repent, IF all obey, IF all confess, IF all believe, IF they humble themselves, etc., etc. etc. — she told me that “God is the ONLY savior of all. And the way she used the word “ONLY” clearly made salvation NOT the work of God, but a contingent work, a co-operative work between God and man. Oh bother. So, this is my reply to her. Enjoy:)
DEAR FREEWILL CHICK,
You know that God is the savior of all mankind, right?
It says exactly that in I TIM 4:10.
“God Is The Savior Of All Mankind, Especially Of Believers.”
But what do you think about someone who twists the verse to say…
GOD IS THE ONLY SAVIOR OF ALL MANKIND?
By shoving the word ONLY into the sentence… you clearly change the meaning and tone of what God has said through Paul, don’t you agree?
By shoving the word ONLY into I TIM 4:10… you’re clearly taking the EMPHASIS off of GOD and putting it on the qualifying adverb/adjective “ONLY”.
The qualifier “ONLY” limits the saving character of God and saving work revealed in this verse.
Shame on the person who would do that.
CONSIDER:
TRUTH:
God IS the Savior of all mankind… OR….
LIES:
God is the ONLY Savior of all mankind
God is the POSSIBLE Savior of all mankind
God is the NEAREST Savior of all mankind
God is the MOST LIKELY Savior of all mankind
God is the POTENTIAL Savior of all mankind
God is the HOPEFUL Savior of all mankind
God is the BEST Savior of all mankind
God is the WILLING Savior of all mankind
These adverbs/adjectives change the meaning and tone of what CLEARLY IS SAID in I TIM 4:10 — that God IS the savior of all mankind.
Dear Chick, No matter what adverb you twist into this verse… YOU CHANGE THE MEANING to be something less than what it clearly says-as it stands.

DICTIONARY DEFINITION OF THE WORD:
only
[ˈōnlē]
ADVERB
- and no one or nothing more besides; solely or exclusively.
ONLY can also be an adjective or conjunction.
DID YOU SEE THE WORD exclusively IN THE DEFINITION????
YES.. IT’S RIGHT THERE…
So you flat out DESTROY God’s word when you FORCE “only” into the verse when it’s not only UNCALLED for.. but contrary to the TONE of the sentence by the use of the word ESPECIALLY.
ONLY and ESPECIALLY are not well suited together in this, FAITHFUL SAYING-THAT IS WORTHY OF ALL WELCOME… THAT GOD IS THE SAVIOR OF ALL, ESPECIALLY OF BELIEVERS — NOT EXCLUSIVELY OF BELIEVERS.
By changing God’s word to say “God is the only savior of all mankind” you have changed this to be an UNFAITHFUL saying… worthy of no welcome at all. Something we should not teach.
Note: Verse 9 says this is a faithful saying, worthy of all welcome.
Note: Verse 11 says these things command and teach.
It is just not right that you and your freewiller pals should twist I TIMOTHY 4:10 into something so unpleasant.
POST THOUGHTS:
Here are the arguments Freewillers give to us:
God’s unconditional love is conditional…
It’s Contingent…
It’s Changeable…
It’s Revocable…
It’s Uncertain…
We must meet in a long list of conditions order to enjoy God’s unconditional love… then, He is the “only” savior.
Yeah, I know, it’s rather sickening to even write words like that, but it’s the essence of their song and dance.
POST, POST THOUGHT:
To prove to you I’m not making this argument up… that she insists that “ONLY” clearly infers a contingency gospel… I finished our back and forth by capitalizing the word “is” one more time… saying:
“God IS the savior of all mankind.”
She replied: “Yes, he can be.”

Now, to cleanse your palate… here is what Paul ACTUALLY SAID…
I TIMOTHY 4:9-11
Faithful is the saying and worthy of all welcome
(for for this are we toiling and being reproached),
that we rely on the living God, Who is the Saviour of all mankind, especially of believers.
These things be charging and teaching.
