I was emailing my older sister and family, some of whom are still Catholic like my sister. I tried to get her and them to see this: Romans 4:22-25 shows us that it is God who declares us to be righteous just for believing Him concerning Christ dying for us and being roused from the dead. It is the end of religion to make us acceptable to God as is 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
Do you believe making one acceptable to God by religious means (i.e. doing this and doing that) is wrong? Tony.
She replied: I’m sorry, Tony – it’s fruitless to have this discussion as MY God is not your God. So, the basis of our ‘arguments’, aren’t on the same page.
And so I wrote this to her and the family (yes, I belong to a very large family):
So, Mary, your god is not my God? That could very well be. But you shouldn’t tell that to the whole family. I kind of had an idea that is the case but I wouldn’t have bragged about it in front of everyone.
So, let me get this straight, your god is not the God of the Old Testament Who brought everything into existence as my God did? Figures.
Your god is not my God Who sent His Son into the world, not to judge the world but to save the world (John 3:17), as my God did? Figures.
Your god is not my God Who raised Jesus from the dead (Acts 2:24,32; 3:15; 13:30; 1 Cor.6:14). I thought so.
Your god is not the God of our Lord, Jesus Christ (Eph.1:17).
You don’t believe: “there is one God, the Father, out of Whom all is, and we for Him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through Whom all is, and we through Him. But not in all (like Mary) is there this knowledge” (1 Cor.8:6,7, see also Ephesians 4:6; 1 Tim.2:5) like I do.
Your god is not my God Who tells us He will reckon righteousness to those to believe Him concerning Christ dying for our sins, being entombed, and roused the third day (Rom.4:23-25; 1 Cor.15:1-4).
And finally, and I’m sure this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg: Your god is not my God Who “will have all mankind to be saved” (1 Tim.2:4-6) and is all mankind’s Saviour (1 Tim.4:10).
Okay, I just have to take your word, Mary, that your god is not my God. Thanks for coming out of the closet on this matter. Keep doing all your religious B.S. to try to appease your pagan god. My God is happy with me. My God is at peace with you and the world and wants you and the whole world to be at peace with Him (2 Cor.5:19-21). Your god is not at peace with the world and wants to destroy everyone who doesn’t cow-tow to your failure of a god. You are correct. It is fruitless to have a conversation over biblical matters with someone like you whose god is not the God of the Sacred Scriptures.
